Crown green bowling has been played at Winnington for over a hundred years.

Winnington Park was bought by John Brunner and Ludvic Mond in 1873, and the recreation club was formed in 1890. The bowling greens, along with other sports facilities such as tennis courts, were added throughout the 1890s.
